Review: Windows Live Writer Backup

by Andy on February 16th, 2010

Live Writer tends to be one of those applications that you spend a few minutes configuring and then you forget about the changes, at least until you need to move to a new machine. I ran into that recently and found a small (and free) app that will backup and restore all the Live Writer settings.

It didn’t seem to backup correctly on Windows 7 unless I ran as administrator. Said it did, but no file was created. Run it like this:

Then you get a dirt simple UI, totally functional:

Click the backup button and you’re done. The backup has a wlwbackup extension, but it’s just a zip containing all the other stuff.

Works fine, easy to install, no hassle. Have to wonder why they didn’t code this into Live Writer to start with. You can download it from http://wlwbackup.codeplex.com/.

  1. I use live mesh to backup the drafts folder so no matter what machine I’m on my work is there!

I do the same, like this for the settings more than the drafts.
